Wash care instructions to meet Páramo Guarantee conditions.
As with all technical clothing, caring for it correctly – and regularly – is central to its performance. Many outdoor garments have a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating applied to them that not only provides waterproofing but is essential for breathability. Repeat use, and dirt, dust, sweat, oils from animals, sunscreen and makeup can all build up over time and prevent the DWR from working properly.
The washing process is easy, and preparation is quick. First, wipe any excess dirt off your garment, secure zips, fasten tabs and loosen any elastics. Then, ensure your washing machine tray is clear of detergent and fabric softener residues. Use the correct Nikwax® product for your garment (see below) and wash it on a low temperature setting. At the end of the wash cycle, run your garment under a tap whilst it is still wet to check if water beads up on the outer fabric. If it does not, use the correct proofing product for your garment (see below) and use the same cycle setting as for the initial wash. At the end of the proofing cycle, leave your garment to air dry over a towel.
Our recommendation is to wash these garments at 30°C on a synthetic cycle (800 spin speed). This will ensure they wash well whilst minimising energy usage. If your washing machine is without a 30°C cycle, washing garments at 40°C will not damage them. Do not wash over 50°C.
Washing:
Wash your garment regularly with Tech Wash® to ensure it is kept clean from dirt and contaminants and remains fresh. For most people this should be approximately every 3 months, however, if you wear your garment daily, we recommend you wash it once a month. If you have been away for a week’s walking, we recommend you wash it on your return. You can never over-wash Páramo clothing – in fact, the more you wash it, the better it will perform and the longer it will last. It will also need reproofing less often.
Reproofing:
You do not need to reproof your garment after every wash, which will overproof it. Rather, you should reproof it with TX-Direct® Wash-in every 2-5 washes after cleaning it first with Tech Wash. We recommend checking the beading on your wet, freshly laundered garment after the washing stage to determine whether it needs to be reproofed.
DO NOT use Tech Wash and TX-Direct in the same wash cycle as this will leave a waxy residue on both your garment and washing machine.
Tumble drying:
Whilst your garment can be tumble dried (low temperature, synthetic) it is not a performance requirement and we do not advise it. This is because both Páramo and Nikwax products are PFC free and, therefore, do not require heat activation to deliver cleaning and waterproofing results. Instead, we recommend drip drying your garment over a towel.
Trouble shooting:
If your garment is not reproofing as you would expect it to, this is likely due to; insufficient washing, external contamination (such as from pack straps or airborne chemicals), over-proofing, or if the garment has not been cleaned properly first. For any problems you are experiencing, please contact our Customer Experience team.

Washing:
Wash your garment regularly with BaseWash® OR with standard biological detergent and BaseFresh® to ensure it is kept clean, minimises odour, improves fabric performance and maximises longevity. DO NOT use fabric softeners, which are designed to soften pure cotton products and will be detrimental to the performance of your high-wicking synthetic garment.

You do not need to reproof your garment after every wash, which will overproof it. Rather, you should reproof it with Cotton Proof every 2-5 washes after cleaning it first with Tech Wash. Please note that that this will not make your garment waterproof, rather it will minimise the amount of water it retains and allow it to dry faster.
DO NOT use Tech Wash and Cotton Proof in the same wash cycle as this will leave a waxy residue on both your garment and washing machine.
